Thousands of people participate in the “Ḥadith Symposium” at Al-Azhar Mosque on the occasion of the Prophet’s Birthday

On Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, thousands of students from Egypt and the world flocked to attend the first Ḥadith symposium during 2019, reading and authenticating the book entitled, ‛Urfut-Ta‛rῑf bil-Mawlidi sh-Sharῑf; (A Fragrant Introduction to the Prophet’s Birthday), by the Qur'ān reciter Al-Imam Al-Hafiz Shams-Uddīn Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Al-Jazriy. The event takes place in conjunction with the celebration of Al-Azhar Mosque of the Birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

The Hadith symposium was attended by Sheikh Ṣāleḥ ‛Abbās, Al-Azhar Grand Imam’s Deputy, Dr. Ahmed Me‛bid, Member of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheikh ‛Ali Khalīl, Head of Al-Azhar Institutes Sector, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hudhud, former President of Al-Azhar University, and Dr. ‛Abdel Mun‛im Fu’ād, General Supervisor of the Azhari Ruwāq (Class Court), Dr. ‛Abdul Fattāḥ El-‛Awwāri, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Theology, Al-Azhar University, and a group of scholars of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif.

The book talks about the lineage of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), his bearing period, his birth as well as the blessings of his birthday, and the wonders of the night of his noble birth and breast feeding. It also deals with his trade for Lady Khadija and their marriage, in addition to his mission and the journey of Al-’Isrā’ wal-Mi‛rāj (The Night Journey and Ascension) and his migration to Medina, as well as his performing the Farewell Pilgrimage and his death (pbuh).

Such Ḥadith symposium comes within the framework of the initiative adopted by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Prof. Ahmed Aṭ-Ṭayyeb, several years ago. The initiative aims to revive Al-Azhari Ruwāqs (Class Courts), to continue their historical role in providing the sciences of Sharῑ‛a according to the disciplined Azhari approach for all students of all ages throughout the year without interruption, and without any paid tuition fees. Such role is meant to block the road for those who promote intolerant or anomalous thoughts and fatwas.
