In the tenth episode of his Ramadan Program broadcast on Egyptian TV, the Grand Imam: Islamic shari`ah underscores spouses' grooming themselves due to its role in stabilizing family life

     His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof Ahmed Aṭ-Ṭayyeb, said that Islamic Shari`ah maintains that the wife should groom herself for her husband, and considered it one of the marital rights that should be valued and maintained for the success and stability of family life. He pointed out that the Maliki School makes it obligatory for the husband to provide make up tools to his wife, as part of the expenses which he is bound to cover, following his coverage of expenses for food and drink, clothing and housing.

     The Imam explained, during the tenth episode of his Ramadan program broadcast on Egyptian TV, that what is meant is not the use of cosmetics and garish adornments, but rather the woman’s taking good care of herself and her appearance, watching her words and pleasing her husband. This is the wife's shortest way to her husband's heart. Likewise, grooming oneself is not limited to the wife, since the husband is also required to groom himself to please his wife, as this brings stability and happiness to the family.

     The Grand Imam's program is broadcast at 6:15 pm daily throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan. The program discusses a number of Muslim family issues, the rights recognized by Islam for husband and wife, and how to preserve the family entity as a basis for building a sound human community.
