Al-Azhar Grand Imam’s Deputy congratulates the Grand Imam and Pope Francis on the UN adoption of the anniversary of signing the Human Fraternity Document (HFD) as the International Day of Human Fraternity

The Grand Imam’s Deputy, Chairman of Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, Prof. Muḥammad Aḍ-Ḍuwīnī, congratulated the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭayyeb, and Pope Francis, of the Catholic Church, on the occasion of the United Nations General Assembly resolution adopting February 4, the anniversary of signing the Human Fraternity Document, as the International Day of Human Fraternity (HFD). The resolution is considered an international consensus on the significance of this exceptional document in the modern history of humanity. The HFD includes a set of principles and ideals agreed upon by all religions and customs.

The Deputy of Al-Azhar Grand Imam praised this historic initiative by the Supreme Committee for Human Fraternity, proposed by the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Nations, with support of their brethren in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Morocco and a number of Arab and Muslim countries. The UN resolution has gained great consensus and enjoyed international support.

Aḍ-Ḍuwīnī stressed the importance of such resolution in this hard time of the history of humankind, during which the whole world relies on the wisdom of religious leaders and symbols, and hailed the efforts made by the humanitarian institutions to promote the values of coexistence, tolerance and peace worldwide. To him, promoting such values is meant to eradicate hatred, extremism, violence, racism and other scourges that disperse efforts, divide societies and tamper with homelands.
