On Sunday, his Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof Ahmed Aṭ-Ṭayyeb received Mr. Karin Gregorian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in Cairo.

The Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is exerting great efforts to consolidate the values of tolerance and world peace, and is working to build bridges of cooperation and understanding between different civilizations. He also expressed the readiness of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to strengthen cooperation and cultural and scientific exchange with Armenia through providing some scholarships and training Muslim Imams in Armenia to deal with contemporary issues and problems.

On his part, the Armenian ambassador said that Egypt and Armenia hold deeply-rooted historical ties that lasted for hundreds of years. He also praised the efforts of Al-Azhar and the vision of the Grand Imam on the establishment of tolerance and world peace, as reflected in the Document of Human Fraternity signed last February in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi. Moreover, he stressed that Al-Azhar's message of tolerance and peace is a universal one shared by all religions and peoples.
