"The Grand Imam is a true hero of peace," the UN Secretary-General's Adviser states.

     Mr. Adama Dieng, the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for the Prevention of Genocide, said that the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmed Aṭ-Ṭayyeb, is a true hero of peace, and that he is looking forward to cooperating with Al-Azhar Observatory in combating the discourse of hate around the world.

     During his visit to the Al-Azhar Observatory this evening, Dieng noted, "It has become imperative for us to combat violent extremism and confront the ideas of those who call themselves Islamists. We have to promote the thought of Al-Azhar Observatory in Combating Extremism in various parts of the earth, due to its important contributions to raise the awareness of thousands of people every day."

     It is worth mentioning that Mr. Adama Dieng held several international positions, including the UN Secretary-General's Envoy to the Republic of Malawi in 1991, and the Secretary of the Registry of the International Criminal Court in Rwanda in 2001. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.
