The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar calls for human solidarity...

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar calls for human solidarity and directing the world's attention towards putting an end to the suffering of the poor and the persecuted

On Sunday, December 20, 2020, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭayyeb, called for seizing the opportunity of the International Day of Human Solidarity to direct the world's attention to putting an end to the suffering of the poor, the marginalized, the sick and the persecuted, especially given the present wars and conflicts and the spread of the culture of hatred, racism and double standards.

In a two-language post, Arabic and English, on his official Facebook page, His Eminence wrote, “The International Day of Human Solidarity comes as an opportunity to direct the world's attention, especially the capable and developed countries, to offer a hand to put an end to the suffering of the poor, the marginalized, the sick and the persecuted, especially those who have been weakened by wars and conflicts and exhausted by the culture of hatred, racism and double standards”.

The UN celebrates the International Human Solidarity Day on December 20 each year. The celebration is meant to express unity within the framework of diversity, reminding the governments of the need to respect their pledges in international agreements, and raising the level of public awareness of the importance of solidarity. In addition, discussions should be encouraged on ways to promote solidarity to achieve the millennium development goals, including poverty eradication, along with any work that boost new initiatives to put an end to poverty.
