Al-Azhar Grand Imam Condemns the Terrorist Attack on a Church in Indonesia

     The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭayyeb, condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a church in Makassar, Indonesia, on Sunday, March 28, 2021. The attack resulted in a number of injuries and in killing the attacker. The Grand Imam depicted the incident as “a heinous crime”.

     In a two-language tweet, on his two official pages on the social network sites (Facebook and Twitter), His Eminence expressed full solidarity with the leadership and the people of Indonesia in connection with this terrorist incident. He depicted the incident as one meant to terrorize the innocent and spread terror in the hearts of safe people. The Grand Imam called on Almighty Allah to grant the injured with a speedy recovery, and to protect our world from the dangers and evils of terrorism.

     The text of the post goes, “We stand in solidarity with the leadership and the people of Indonesia in connection with the terrorist incident that targeted a church in Makassar, and we declare our strong condemnation of such heinous crimes aiming at terrorizing the innocent and spreading terror in the hearts of safe people. We pray to Allah to grant the injured a speedy recovery, and to protect our world from the dangers and evils of terrorism.”
