Al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars (ACSS) condemns escalations towards Libya, and supports the Egyptian Stance to preserve the security and safety of the entire region

In light of its responsibility towards the Arab and Muslim world, the ACSS held an emergency meeting on Saturday, Jan 4, 2020, headed by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, to discuss the recent events experienced by the sister country of Libya. The ACSS confirmed the following:

  • Any external intervention in Libyan territories is regarded as corruption on the land and much harm that will only further complicate the situation in Libya, spill more blood and kill innocent people.
  • The whole world, in the forefront of which are the Muslim countries and the international institutions concerned with the maintenance of peace and security, must prevent this intervention before it occurs, and reject the power of wars that can lead the region and the world towards an all-out war.
  • Rejecting the logic of hegemony that some regional countries claim on the Arab world, and take as an excuse to violate its sovereignty, emphasizing that solving the problems of the region can only be with an internal will among sister states.
  • Calling on all Libyan brothers to listen to the voice of reason and wisdom and refuse to seek strength from abroad, because this would otherwise lead to the destruction of the future of Libya and the fragmentation of its territorial integrity, as well as tearing the bonds of brotherhood among its citizens.
  • The ACSS supports the Egyptian stance to preserve the security and safety of Egypt, and the security of the entire region, and to be characterized by the utmost degree of diplomacy. The ACSS stressed that Egypt is used to having this stance. Egypt has always acted as an impenetrable barrier against tampering with the security and safety of the Arab and Muslim peoples.

The ACSS members expressed their hope that this conflict will soon come to an end. They called on Allah to preserve Egypt, and the Arab region and its peoples, to enjoy security and peace, and to spare us all the dangers of wars and the scourge of conflicts that must be avoided in every possible way. May Allah protect Libya, the Libyans, and all Arab peoples, unite them, unite their word, and preserve their blood and souls. Allah says the truth, and He guides to the [right] way.
