On behalf of President El-Sisi,...

On behalf of President El-Sisi, the Prime Minister honors the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE) in appreciation of its efforts to promote enlightened moderate thought

     On Monday, Jan 27, 2020, on behalf of H.E. President ‛Abdel Fattāḥ El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly honored Dr. Sulṭān Ar-Rumaithi, Secretary General of the MCE. The honor came in appreciation of the efforts made by the MCE, headed by Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭayyeb. The MCE made contributions in renewing religious thought and promoting social peace, interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and the culture of coexistence, peace and enlightened moderate thought.

     This honor came during the inaugural session of Al-Azhar Conference on Renewal of Religious Thought, held by Al-Azhar under the auspices of President El-Sisi in the period from 27-28 January 2020. The session also witnessed honoring a number of scholars of the Muslim nation, personalities and institutions that played an active role in renewing and promoting the enlightened moderate Islamic thought.

     It is noteworthy that the MCE is an independent international organization founded on July 19, 2014, headed by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭayyeb. The MCE brings together a group of scholars, experts and elders of the Muslim nation characterized with wisdom, justice, independence and moderation. They join hands with the aim of contributing to the promotion of peace in Muslim societies, lessening the intensity of troubles and wars that have prevailed in many societies of the Muslim nation in the recent time, and avoiding the factors of conflict and divisionism.
