On Wednesday, Feb 19, 2020, Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) received Mr. Adama Dieng, the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for the Prevention of Genocide. His visit aimed to learn about the AOCE's efforts in combating extremist thoughts, correcting misconceptions, and refuting the suspicions caused by terrorist groups, in addition to following up with the conditions of the Muslims around the world.
Dieng was introduced to the mechanism of the work at the AOCE, which includes twelve units in Arabic and foreign languages, through a detailed explanation of the tasks performed by researchers there. He also surveyed the AOCE's latest visual and printed publications.
On his part, the UN Secretary-General's Adviser praised the efforts of the AOCE in combating terrorism and confronting extremist claims. He also highlighted the AOCE international role in combating the phenomenon of Islamophobia and the discourse of hate in enhancing societal peace in all countries around the world.
