Al-Azhar calls on all organizations and bodies to...

Al-Azhar calls on all organizations and bodies to shoulder their responsibilities towards the Rohingya Muslims.

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, led by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Dr. Ahmed At-Tayeb, expresses discontent with the Rohingya Muslims, in Myanmar, are suffering, of religious persecution, forcible displacement and genocide. This had prompted hundreds of people to board the sea, fleeing for their religion. This flight has recently resulted in the death of dozens and the injuries of hundreds due to malnutrition and lengthened stay at sea, with surrounding countries refusing to receive them.

Al-Azhar stresses the need for intervention on part of all organizations and bodies concerned with refugees and human rights. They are required to shoulder their responsibilities towards the Rohingya case, and to work for a fair and speedy solution to save the people there and restore their usurped rights. Al-Azhar also calls on Myanmar to adhere to the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to ensure the right of all people to choose their own faith and practice their religious rites, to abandon religious persecution, and to respect religious minorities.

Al-Azhar also calls on Myanmar’s neighboring countries, to which the people migrate, fleeing for their lives and their faith, to maintain conscientiousness in dealing with them, to take into account their pains and sufferings, and thus to welcome them out of compassion and mercy (knowing that God, the Most Merciful, shows mercy to those who are merciful).
Finally, Al-Azhar prays to God to lift the affliction from the Muslims of Rohingya, and to return them safe to their homeland.
