The majority of scholars are of the opinion that burying the dead at night is permissible. However, burying the dead during the day is more preferable and recommended because it is easier for those following the funeral, and easier to bury the dead properly according to the Sunnah. In addition, burial during the day enables more people to gather for funeral prayer.

Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a grave of a man buried at night. He, thereupon, asked, “When was that buried?” They replied, “Last night.” He said, “Why did you not inform me?” They replied, “We buried him at night and it was dark, so we did not want to disturb you.” Thus, he offered funeral prayed for him.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari).
