Al-Azhar female preachers started their first task in the main Fatwa Committee at Al-Azhar Mosque
The female preachers met Dr. ˁAbbās Shoumān and Dr. ˁAbdul Hādī Zāriˁ, right before the work in order to understand the nature of work and how to maintain effective communication with the Mustaftī audience (the questioners).
In this concern, Prof. Naẓīr Muḥammad ˁAyyād, the Secretary General of Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy (AIRA) said, “Seeking the assistance of Al-Azhar female preachers came after a number of training programs that they received under the title “A Female Muftī Forming”. The training programs’ theoretical sessions were held in the AIRA, while its practical ones were held in Al-Azhar Mosque, in addition to workshops to develop the female preachers’ skills in fatwa.
Moreover, the female preachers’ presence in the Fatwa Committee emanates from the committee’s need for women specially the questions in which the female questioner feels embarrassed to ask men.
During her inspection of the committee's workflow, Dr. Elhām Shāhīn, the AIRA Assistant Secretary General for Female Preachers Affairs, pointed out that the distribution of female preachers to work in the Fatwa offices of Al-Azhar Mosque and Fatwa Committees in the governorates is nothing but a harvest of the intensive training programs. Finally, she asserted the necessity of the presence female muftis in this important field; to reap the fruits of what they have been taught and trained on in the past years.
