During the Harvest Report 2022, AIRA reveals its efforts to spread climate awareness and warnings against the dangers of environmental changes

- 180957 meetings held by Al-Azhar male and female preachers all over Egypt

- A comprehensive community initiative in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment

- 15 awareness missions specialized in raising awareness of climate change

- Organizing scientific conferences and seminars in cooperation with universities and government institutions

The AIRA Media Center has revealed in its annual harvest report of 2022 that AIRA has played an important role in raising awareness of the dangers of climate change during this year. This comes under the leadership of Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, who urged Al-Azhar sectors to support national strategies in all fields.

The Media Center stated that the AIRA carried out a number of activities and events during this year with the aim of spreading climate awareness to every Egyptian in order to contribute towards reducing the impact of climate change, creating sustainable environment and presenting a scientific vision in line with Islamic Sharia to confront climate changes.

At the level of community initiatives, AIRA has launched an initiative entitled: “Our climate, our life” in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment to raise awareness about climate.

AIRA Secretary-General, Dr. Nazir Ayyad stated that Al-Azhar preachers conducted 180,957 awareness meetings at mosques, cultural centers, sports clubs, police stations, youth centers, schools, academic institutes and universities across the governorates of Egypt to shed light on the dangers of climate change and its negative effects scientifically. He also explained the view of Islamic sharia on this phenomenon that threatens societies.

AIRA also launched about 15 awareness missions to explain climate changes in villages, cities and governorates.

Within the framework of the role of religious and scientific institutions and civil society institutions in confronting the issue of climate change and overcoming its effects, Ayyad indicated that AIRA participated in many conferences and events related to this issue, including: the Sohag University Conference in cooperation with the Center for Forensic Astronomy at AIRA, entitled: “Astronomy and Space Technology towards Environmental and Climate Issues: An Islamic Scientific View” and another conference entitled “Arab Strategies for Reducing the Risks of Climate Change,” which was held by the Egyptian Arab Foundation for Investment, Innovation and Industrial Development (EAFID) with participation of AIRA. AIRA also participated in the Engineers’ Syndicate Symposium entitled: “Space Science to Face Climate Change”, the University of Arish Forum in cooperation with AIRA entitled: “Climate Changes: Opportunities and Challenges,” and Al-Azhar Magazine Forum entitled: "Scientific and Legal Aspects of Climate Change." AIRA participated in declaring the city of Kharga in the New Valley as a green city that is environmentally and climate friendly.

Since raising awareness of the dangers of these changes requires detailed study of the reasons and solutions needed to confront them, the Secretary-General of AIRA stated that Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams, Preachers and Fatwa Researchers organized a training program, under the supervision of Dr. Hassan Al-Saghir, on climate change and its impact for Al-Azhar male and female preachers.
