Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy (AIRA), Dr. Nazir Ayyad, resumed his talk about theology correcting some academic concepts, and refuted some arguments raised by those who object to theology. For instance, they deny that this science has its roots in the Noble Qur’an and the honorable Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH).
In the third episode of his program “Towards Proper Understanding,” Ayyad clarified that theology revolves around the meaning of the Divine Being of Allah, exalted be He, His Attributes and His Actions. It also deals with such matters as Prophethood, the Day of Resurrection, etc. Those matters include the six pillars of faith, which are elaborated on in The Noble Qur’an and the Prophet’s tradition.
This is a clear indication that the Noble Qur’an is the main source of this science. Thus, many verses speak about Allah, exalted be He, His Attributes, His Actions, the obligatory, possible or impossible things regarding them, as well as Prophethood, and matters related to the Day of Resurrection and a lot of issues related to belief.
In conclusion, he refuted the argument of those who object to this science and their claim about the exaggerated use of rational evidence, showing that this is incorrect and illogical, since the Prophet (PBUH) guided his companions to use reason in many situations. In many verses, the Qur’an explicitly calls for the use of reason. Hence, using the rational evidence is based on a clear Qur’anic message and it is an application of the Prophet’s Sunnah.
