Which is more virtuous – the last ten days of Ramadan or the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah?

It has been said that the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best days of the year, and many scholars preferred them over the last 10 of Ramadan, as Muslims perform Hajj during these days. It has, also, been stated that the last 10 days of Ramadan are better because within them is the Night of Decree [laylatul-Qadr]. However, some scholars took a middle course in this issue and stated that the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are better than the last 10 days of Ramadan, and that the last 10 nights of Ramadan are better than the nights of Dhul-Hijjah.
