IRA Secretary General Meets a Delegation of Muslim and Christian Leaders from Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, and Zanzibar

The Secretary General stressed the role of Al-Azhar in building dialogue, supporting coexistence, and establishing societal and global peace among all peoples. He also outlined the Egyptian Family House (EFH) model and its role in societal coexistence.

The Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy (IRA), Dr. Nazir Ayyad, held a meeting in his office today with a delegation of Muslim and Christian leaders from Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan, Uganda, and Zanzibar. The meeting was held within the framework of supporting the culture of diversity, dialogue, and acceptance of the other.

During the meeting, the Secretary General said that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, through many activities in which its various sectors participate, seeks to spread the culture of dialogue between the followers of different religions. In addition, Al-Azhar’s scholarly publications and meetings support respect for religious and sect pluralism, through emphasizing the necessity of accepting the others, irrespective of their beliefs and colors, and considering them brothers in humanity.

Dr. Ayyad added that the Egyptian Family House (EFH) is a unique model of the societal coexistence through its activities which consolidate the culture of dialogue between followers of different religions, urge unity, and renounce disagreement by building bridges of communication and cooperation between religious institutions and societal organizations.

The Secretary General stated that Al-Azhar, under the leadership of the Grand Imam, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyib, realizes the importance of dialogue in dealing with the issue of coexistence and establishing societal and global peace among all peoples.

The delegation expressed their pleasure with the visit and their appreciation of the role of Al-Azhar in spreading world peace, especially in African countries that suffer from religious and sectarian divisions.
