Meeting with Indonesian Delegation, AIRA Secretary General Applauds Indonesian Students for Role in Obtaining Knowledge and Conveying Al-Azhar's Message to Their Countries

     Dr. Nazir Ayyad, the Secretary General of Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy (AIRA), received an Indonesian delegation headed by Mr. Sharafuddin Kampu, Chairman of Indonesian Diwan of Mosques. The delegation included heads of a number of Indonesian institutes and a number of students who won scholarships at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. Both Mr. Muhamad Aji Surya, the Indonesian Deputy Ambassador in Cairo and Mr. Bambang Suryadi, the Indonesian educational and cultural advisor attended the meeting.

     At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary General welcomed the delegation, expressing Al-Azhar’s appreciation for the government, people and students of Indonesia. He also asserted that the Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, takes an interest in international students, including the Indonesian ones, who form the majority of the international students at Al-Azhar.

     The meeting discussed aspects of scholarly cooperation and Al-Azhar’s sustainable support to the institutes under its supervision abroad. Al-Azhar supplies these institutes with teachers, textbooks and the curricula that demonstrate the tolerance of Islam and consolidate the moderate approach of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. In addition, they discussed the possibility of increasing these institutes in the future.

     For his part, members of the Indonesian delegation expressed their thanks and appreciation of Al-Azhar’s important role, confirming that the world is in dire need of Al-Azhar’s scholars and distinguished staff. They expressed their appreciation of Al-Azhar’s efforts to correct misconceptions, to clarify true Islam and to explain the values of cooperation, mercy and humanity that Al-Azhar calls for.
