A Comprehensive Study Prioritizing Climate Change Issue on Humanitarian and Societal levels and spreading Environmental Awareness Needed, AIRA Secretary General

The Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy (IRA), Dr. Nazir Ayyad, participated in the Third International Scientific Conference on Environment & Sustainable Development under the title ‘Climate Change: Challenges and Confrontation.’

The conference is held under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and in the presence of His Eminence the Grand Imam Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar. A number of ministers also attended.

During his speech at the opening session, the Secretary General said the conference comes in accordance with the great care that Egypt really gives to the scientific research especially in the fields of climate and environment sciences, and astronomy and space issues. He added that the themes and sessions of this conference discuss the renewable climate challenges and the possible solutions.

In this context, Ayyad explained that the world has recently been suffering from serious weather phenomena that threaten the whole Earth. These dangerous climatic changes include devastating floods, severe drought, water scarcity, lower agricultural productivity and pollution of the environment, rivers and oceans. Such a crisis that threatens humanity needs our attention. Therefore, we all – inhabitants of this planet - have to cooperate in order to solve this global issue in accordance with what religions call us to do. He also pointed out that Islam was the first religion to lay the foundations for comprehensive care of the environment including water, air, soil, and living creatures.

Ayyad concluded his speech by emphasizing the urgent need for pure faith that would save the Earth and humanity from destruction, since we all are sure that the destructive effects of such negative practices against the environment and the climate do not affect the perpetrators only- even if they are thousands of miles away.

Therefore, I call on all the scientific, religious, media and social institutions to adopt a joint global discourse to confront these negative practices.
