AIRA on Issue of Hijāb: Allowing People to Issue Their Own Fatwas...

AIRA on Issue of Hijāb: Allowing People to Issue  Their Own Fatwas at Whim Is A Call to Legitimize Deviant Currents to Choose What  Justifies Their Actions

- Hijab is an obligation, according to the Holy Quran, the Sunnah, consensus and other sources.

- A woman is obliged to wear hijāb (veil) to protect herself, and it absolutely is not an obstacle to dealing with her as a successful person.

Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy (AIRA) issued a statement that says: It is closely following those issues that arise on Social Media, which are closely related to people and their faith.

Recently, strange voices that deviate from the principles of science and the etiquette of fatwa have been meddling with established religious issues, claiming that they have correct understanding! Among these issues is the issue of women’s hijāb (veil). AIRA affirms that hijāb is an obligation supported by the Holy Quran, the Sunnah, the consensus of scholars and other sources.

The Holy Quran says, “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments except what normally appears. Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their [hidden] adornments” (Qur’an, 24: 31).

Other verses and hadiths, and the definitive opinion of the jurists on the matter support women’s hijab.  It is not permissible for individuals - even though they belong to the academic community - to deviate from the rulings established by the religious texts and consensus that are part of the identity of this nation. The opinion of these people violates the rules of science, the methodology of scholars, the principles of thought, and the fundamentals of deduction.
