Al-Azhar Observatory Launches “Let's Quash Rumours” Campaign to Increase Awareness of the Danger of Rumours

Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism launched “Let's Quash Rumours” campaign to spread awareness of the danger of rumours that creates an atmosphere of hatred. The campaign also warns against the malicious goals that rumour- mongers seek to achieve in order to create chaos among members of society.

The messages of this campaign, which will be posted throughout the month of Ramadan, assert the necessity of adopting a moderate discourse based on verifying the correctness of news before transmitting it, especially at the recent time as modern means of communication greatly affect people’s lives.
Through its messages posted in twelve languages - English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Urdu, Persian, Turkish, African languages, Chinese and Hebrew, as well as Arabic - the campaign reveals that Islamic Sharia prohibits circulating rumours, and highlights key causes, objectives and means of spreading them. It also shows how terrorist groups rely on rumours to spread poisonous ideas to attract young people.
