The Media Center – The Islamic Research Academy (IRA)
Dr. Mohie Ed-deen Afifi, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy (IRA) met with Mufti of the State of Burma, Dr Abdel Salam Menteen, and a delegation from the state of Burma.
The AIRA Secretary-General announced that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif agreed to fulfill all the needs and demands of Burmese students in terms of increasing the number of Al-Azhar Scholarships for Burmese students in different Azhar school grades; providing the students with academic books and copies of the Glorious Qur'an; and sending Azhar delegations to Burma as a part of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif's pioneer role in serving Muslims around the world.
For his part, Mufti of the State of Burma said that Muslims in Burma suffer from injustice and suppression. There is no freedom of expression; their needs are not fulfilled and they don't have the right to be designated in leadership positions. The government doesn't approve of the establishment of any Islamic organization and doesn't consider Muslim minorities. Therefore, they are in need of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif's support as the minaret of Islamic moderation around the world.
Mufti of the State of Burma also demanded Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to provide Burmese students with academic support to study at Al-Azhar and prepare them to be ambassadors of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif back in their countries.
