About the Islamic Research Academy (IRA)

About Us              

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Islamic Research Academy (AIRA) is the second official body and the supreme entity for Islamic studies and research at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif as per article (15) and the executive regulations thereof of 1961 Act and its amendments.

Article (15) of the said act details the roles and the missions that AIRA councils, committees and departments serve under the umbrella of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif:

Reviving Islamic legacy;
Presenting and spreading the religion of Islam in its original pure form;
Clearing misconceptions about Islam and important Islamic figures;
Conducting research in all that's related to Islam and Islamic studies;
Monitoring and following-up all that's spread about Islam;
Resolving all creed-based sectarian and social problems and advocating to Islam with wisdom and gentleness;
Cooperating with Al-Azhar University to supervise postgraduate Islamic studies and assessments;
Developing regulations of religious competitions and scholarships and state-granted awards;
Regulating and supervising the work of the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif- Library;
Publishing, distributing and approving Islamic books;
Sending Azhar delegations to different places  around the world;
Approving admission of foreign students to Al-Azhar University;
Holding an annual conference to discuss important issues and world developments;

The Council of the Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Islamic Research Academy (IRA): -

Mission:

Renewing the Islamic discourse;
Clearing and filtering the Islamic culture from the misconceptions and residual of intellectual and political extremism and dichotomy;
Preparing for conferences held by the Academy
Supervising the implementation of resolutions, decisions and recommendations made at the conference;
Discussing  Academy-related proposals put forward by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif;

The Council of the Islamic Research Academy is headed by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. The meeting is convened at least once a month in the pre- set dates.
