Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb, The Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, received today Mr. Neil Hawkins, the Australian ambassador in Cairo, to discuss cooperation between Al-Azhar and Australia.
The Australian Ambassador expressed his government appreciation for the important role played by Al-Azhar and His Grand Imam, in confronting radical ideas that disturb world peace, He praised Al - Azhar prominent role in spreading the right teachings of Islam and values which call for tolerance, moderation and coexistence with the other. Added, Australia is facing major challenges to confront the extremist ideas which ostracized by Islam because it is a religion of peace.
The Grand Imam, welcomed the Australian Ambassador in Cairo, praising His mastering to Arabic language and studying Islamic history. His eminence stressed that the Al-Azhar institution adopts a moderate style in teaching of Islamic Sciences, adding, Al – Azhar seeks to communicate with Muslims in Australia through Scholarship for Australians students to study in Al-Azhar.
He said that Al-Azhar can prepare an intensive program to train Australians imams to help them promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence and confront deviant thoughts.
