The Grand Imam Of Al – Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, received today Mr. Stephen Beecroft, The American ambassador in Cairo.
At first Al-Azhar Sheikh welcomed the USA ambassador, He discussed with him the current situations in both of the Arab and Islamic world.
During the meeting, The Grand Sheikh, called for The USA Ambassador to restore the people confidence in the principles on which the United States claims to defend such as, democracy, rights and freedoms.
He added that, America should stop working against the will of the people, by supporting some factions that work against their own home.
Sheikh Al-Azhar condemned the tries of some regional powers to hit the stability in Iraq, Syria and Yemen, in order to implement their own projects and agendas in the Arab countries. He added, these actions leads to an increase of the terrorism and destabilize in the region.
He also condemned the attempt of The USA to impose a Libyan government that includes some of the trends which are rejected by the Libyan people. The grand Imam stressed that the Libyan people should be left to choose their own leaders. And to stop supporting some factions against the will of the Libyan people. Disapprovingly, at the same time The USA rejection to the Egyptian air strike to terrorist strongholds in Libya.
Al-Azhar Sheikh confirmed to Mr. Stephen Beecroft the rejection of the Egyptian people for the hosting of the United States for some extremist factions in the white House, stressing that the United States is working against the will of the Egyptian people who revolted against these extremist currents.
Beecroft said that Egypt is an influential country in the Arab and Muslim world, and we cannot dispense its role, because it is the only country that can resolve conflicts in the region and added that Al-Azhar is a major reference for the Muslims in the world, which represents Islam moderation .praising the role of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, in confronting the extremist Thought.
At the end, He promised to convey Tayyeb’s messages to the U.S. administration, according to the Al-Azhar statement.
