The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar arrives in Kazakhstan

     The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayeb, arrived in Kazakhstan on Monday, 8 October, marking the beginning of his foreign tour. Upon arrival at the Astana International Airport, he was received by high profile Kazakh officials. This visit to Kazakhstan comes in response to an official invitation from the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who extended an invitation to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar to participate in the 6th Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions which will be inaugurated on this Wednesday. Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayeb is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech of the conference.
The Grand Imam’s agenda of the second day of the visit is very busy as it is scheduled that Prof. Al-Tayeb will hold various meetings with top Kazakh officials, including the Kazakh President, Kazakh Senate Speaker and Minister of Social Development. In addition, the Kazakh grand Mufti will hold a banquet in honor of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar.
During his visit to Kazakhstan, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayeb is accompanied by a high-level delegation, which includes: Prof. Muhammed al-Mahrasawy, President of Al-Azhar University; Judge Muhammad Abd Al-Salam, Legal Advisor to the Grand Imam; Ambassador Abd Al-Rahman Musa, the Grand Imam’s Advisor for the International Students Affairs; Dr. Sultan Al Remeithi, the Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elders and Mr. Mustafa Abdul Jawwad, Supervisor of Al-Azhar Media Center.
