"Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism is a firewall against radicalism," said the Grand Imam during his visit to the Observatory

His Eminence Prof. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, paid a visit today to Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism. During the visit, the Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar, as an institution, takes on its shoulder the responsibility of uncovering the falsity of the radical groups, noting that the Observatory stands as a firewall against all that the terrorist organizations promote on the internet and through social networks since it employs Al-Azhar's moderate approach in response to such groups in such a way that immunizes young Muslim people against being radicalized.

Prof. Al-Tayyeb also lauded the Observatory's efforts made over the past years with regards to the "electronic encounter" with the deviant thoughts spread by the radical and terrorist groups as well as the efforts made in countering islamophobia and communicating the true image of Islam, affirming that the Observatory's efforts in this regard have been admired by senior leaders and politicians worldwide, a thing which he himself sensed during his visits to foreign countries, especially those to Europe.

The Grand Imam reviewed some reports issued by the Observatory on the activities of the radical groups and requested that sensitive cases be referred to Al-Azhar's Council of Senior Scholars for Shari consideration and counsel as well as to all institutions and organizations concerned with combating extremism.
