The Grand Imam Calls for Intrareligious Islamic Dialogue through the Bahrain Forum for Dialogue

The Bahrain Forum for Dialogue entitled “East and West for Human coexistence” saw the participation of prominent religious leaders from around the world. During the Dialogue’s sessions, the speakers demanded an end to the Russo-Ukrainian war and an immediate start of negotiations for the good of all mankind. For his part, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, voiced his hope to end this ongoing war to save the innocent who did not commit any guilt in this tragedy.
Similar to the current Islamic-Christian dialogue, Al-Tayyeb called for the start of a dialogue that brings together the Sunnis and Shiites in an attempt to achieve intrareligious reconciliation and to eliminate any misunderstandings between the two largest Muslim sects, stating, “Let us stop any talk of hatred, provocation, and deprivation, and let us put aside all forms of the old and new conflicts and their negative consequences.”
Al-Tayeb later chaired the sixteenth session of the Muslim Council of Elders at the Sakhir Royal Palace Mosque in Manama in the presence of Pope Francis and senior cardinals of the Catholic Church.
