Al-Azhar al-Sharif expresses its deep regret and sorrow over the escalating acts of violence that erupted in the Darfur region, Western Sudan, resulting in scores of deaths and injuries and forcing hundreds of families to escape their homes and villages and flee ravages of conflicts. Furthermore, al-Azhar prays to Allah, the Almighty, to protect the Sudanese people, bring them together, and provide them with safety, security, peace and stability.
In addition, al-Azhar calls upon the wise Sudanese to prioritize their country’s interest, resort to the voice of reason and wisdom, return to the table of dialogue, cease fighting, and settle disputes that bring nothing other than more deaths and destruction.
Al-Azhar al-Sharif also calls upon all international relief organizations and bodies to provide urgent relief and aid convoys to conflict-affected areas in the Sudan.
