This seventh day of the blessed month of Ramadan this year (1445 A.H.) marks the 1084th Hijri anniversary of the establishment of Al-Azhar Mosque, a memory dear to the heart of every Muslim, and even every fair human being.
For about 11 centuries now, Al-Azhar has remained a destination for seekers of knowledge from all over the world. They join it to receive true, correct knowledge at the hands of its distinguished scholars. Al-Azhar has carried the message of Islam throughout these years and has remained a home for religious studies, a haven for the Arabic language, and a beacon of light for all Muslims. For all these factors, Al-Azhar came to be known worldwide as a symbol of moderation.
The role of Al-Azhar is not limited to the religious aspect, but rather extends to all aspects of life. In many historic turning points, Al-Azhar and its esteemed scholars were inspiringly active and cooperative.
May Allah keep Al-Azhar as a protecting shield for every Muslim, and may it remain a true voice of Islam, Arabism, and patriotism; and a defender of truth and peace.
