The Italian Interior Minister: * 90% of irregular migrants used smugglers to flee to Europe

* The “Alone Wolves” strategy is the most prominent danger, particularly their ability to carry out attacks against sensitive targets.

During his meeting with the European Union Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, Bartjan Wegter, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantetozzi stressed the need to move forward in confronting the security issues and the ongoing crises on Europe’s borders, highlighting that the most prominent danger is the  “Alone wolves” strategy, particularly their ability to carry out attacks against traditional sensitive targets.
Pianettozzi pointed to the current crucial international situation and the possibility of dangerous elements infiltrating through migration flows, warning that 90% of irregular migrants used smugglers to flee to Europe.
Moreover, he warned that confronting potentially dangerous cross-border movements needs intensive collaboration among international police agencies.
Regarding efforts to combat cross-border crimes, Piantetozzi expressed appreciation to the security experts and their role in anticipating and tackling risks during 2024, particularly their efforts to extradite 602 internationally wanted criminals, and arrest 374 fugitives in Italy and abroad, including 120 accused of committing organized crimes, and 25 others for committing crimes related to extremism and terrorism.
In turn, the Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) appreciates the security bodies' efforts in Italy to combat organized crime and terrorism, calling for taking more necessary measures to prevent any terrorist attacks, especially with the recent transformation of "Alone wolves" into a major tool on which the ISIS organization relies to implement its criminal plans worldwide.
