Al-Azhar unequivocally condemns the abhorrent terrorist attack that targeted innocent people at an education center for adults in the city of Örebro, Sweden, resulting in 11 casualties and numerous injuries. Al-Azhar expresses its sincerest condolences to the Kingdom and the people of Sweden, as well as to the bereaved families of the victims, and expresses unwavering solidarity with them in the face of this horrific terrorist crime.
Meanwhile, Al-Azhar raises concerns regarding the alarming escalation of "white nationalist" terrorism and far-right extremism in Europe and America, stressing that such phenomena constitute a global threat that requires urgent international intervention to address. Furthermore, it urges global media outlets to maintain objectivity in their coverage of such terrorist incidents and to avoid justifications that frame them as "isolated acts" or "shooting incidents" when the assailant is not Muslim. Conversely, should the perpetrator have any association with Islam, they are swiftly categorized as a terrorist. This media partiality fuels ongoing violence and provides white terrorist groups with a rationale to propagate their their toxic ideology without accountability or deterrence.
