Resumption of Dialogue between Al-Azhar and the Vatican

Prof. Mohey al-Deen Afifi, Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy and Dr. Kamal Boraiq’a Abdelsalam, member of  Al-Azhar Dialogue Center, met today with Archbishop Bruno Musarò, apostolic nuncio in Egypt and Bishop Miguel Ayuso, Secretary of Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.
Both parties have discussed ways to activate dialogue between Al-Azhar and the Vatican to achieve mutual cooperation between followers of Islam and Christianity, as well as the ways to promote common values to achieve peaceful coexistence and collaboration against terrorism that threatens humanity and undermine global stability.

Both parties have asserted the significance of mutual cooperation in view of the high standing of both Al-Azhar and the Vatican.
Discussions between the two parties have covered key issues including: the role of the family in educating new generations, the role of religious figures in building peace and spreading the culture of diversity and accepting the other, supporting peaceful coexistence, and the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation between religious leaders to establish peace and spread love and mercy in our battle against hatred.
