Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) hosted a high-level delegation from the Indonesian Embassy, including Dr. Rahmat Aming, Counselor for Media, Culture, and Education Affairs; Mr. Susapto Anggoro Broto, Minister Plenipotentiary; Ms. Dianne Ayodana Anjarani, Second Secretary; and Mr. Mukhlisan Jalaluddin, senior official at the Embassy's Political department.
Dr. Reham Salama, AOCE’s executive director, discussed with the delegation the stipulations of the forthcoming cooperation agreement to be formalized with the University of Malang, Java, Indonesia. She also examined mechanisms for enhancing cooperation in countering extremism and ways to exchange expertise and knowledge with relevant authorities in Indonesia. This collaboration aspires to bolster collective endeavors aimed at countering extremist ideologies and promote values of moderation and tolerance.
This anticipated cooperation with the University of Malang reflects the shared vision between Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the leading global educational institutions in confronting contemporary intellectual challenges. As an Islamic country, Indonesia represents a unique model of peaceful coexistence and pluralism, having a wealth of experience in countering extremist ideology. Following the meeting, both sides emphasized that international cooperation and the exchange of expertise and knowledge are the most effective ways to undermine the foundations of extremist ideology and spread the values of moderation and tolerance, thereby ensuring the building of safer and more stable societies for future generations.
