Interreligious coexistence means the coexistence of different cultures and civilizations together. It aims at serving paramount objectives that man always seeks to attain. The following verse clearly reveals Islam’s stance concerning Interreligious coexistence; Allah, the Almighty, says "Say, ʻPeople of the Book, come to a word that is common to us all: we will not worship except Allah, we ascribe no partner to Him, and none of us takes others beside Allah as lordsʼ But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him]." (Al-Imran: 64)
One of the most prominent aspects of coexistence is that Islam regarded followers of Christianity and Juadism as People of the Book, even though they do not believe in Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). However, Islam, with its reformative message and call for coexistance, settled this difference. Thanks to the teachings of Islam that promote intercommunication and compassion. In this regard, it is necessary to mention that belief in Moses and Jesus is a condition of the validity of faith. One of the examples that show how Islam promoted coexistence is allowing the marriage of a Muslim man and non-Muslim Jewish or Christian woman. Allah says "This day [all] good foods have been made lawful, and the food of those who were given the Book is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them. And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among the believers and chaste women from among those who were given the Book before you, when you have given them their bride-gifts and married them, desiring chastity, not taking them as lovers or secret mistresses." (Al-Ma'ida: 4)
