Britain's Ambassador to Cairo, “Our country aspires to benefit from Al-Azhar expertise, being the most trusted Islamic authority by the British society.”
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof Ahmed At-Tayyeb, received Mr. Jeffrey Adams, the British Ambassador to Cairo.
At the beginning of the meeting, the British Ambassador congratulated the Grand Imam and all the Muslims on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Jeffrey explained that the British government is keen to increase cooperation with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in the various cultural, religious and scientific fields. He also expressed his country's aspiration to benefit from the expertise of Al-Azhar as the most trusted Islamic authority by the British society.
On his part, the Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is keen that its students remain open to learn foreign languages, the case that will give them the chance to contact different cultures and civilizations, and deliver the message of Al-Azhar to the whole world. He also pointed out that Al-Azhar welcomes cooperation with British cultural and educational institutions, and opens its doors wide to communicate with all the races and cultures.
His Eminence also expressed Al-Azhar Al-Sharif’s readiness to receive the Muslim Imams in Britain to train them on how to confront extremist and terrorist ideas and to promote the culture of peace and co-existence in their society.
