His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof Ahmed At-Tayyeb, received Ambassador Ramon Gilles Cassares, the new Ambassador of Spain to Cairo.

The Grand Imam congratulated the Spanish Ambassador on the occasion of the start of his diplomatic mission, expressing his sincere wishes for success in his work in Egypt.

       Then, he pointed out that Spain has a close historical relationship with the Muslims, represented in a common ancient Islamic civilization. He also pointed out the keenness of Al-Azhar to consolidate this historical relationship by strengthening the links of science and knowledge with Spain in various aspects, and supporting them in the field of training Imams and mosque preachers to confront the extremist thought and the issues of violence and terrorism.

       On his part, the Spanish Ambassador expressed his appreciation of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and its Grand Imam's efforts in consolidating the values of human fraternity and world peace. He also stressed that Al-Azhar is the largest Islamic authority with great credibility in Spain, the case which makes Spain eager to educate its Muslim students at Al-Azhar, being a genuine guarantee of co-existence.
