His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof Ahmed At-Tayyeb, received Mr. Yatsik Chabotovic, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs during his visit to Cairo.
His Eminence the Grand Imam welcomed the Polish Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation, stressing that Egypt has strong and deep relations with Poland. He added that Al-Azhar's first mission is to promote peace throughout the world. He pinpointed Al-Azhar's experience in establishing the Egyptian Family House (EFH) in cooperation with the Egyptian Church. The EFH aims to consolidate the community peace among the inhabitants of the one homeland.
Chabotovic also highlighted Al-Azhar's effort to build bridges of cooperation with different cultures and religions through dialogue with the major religious institutions, such as the Canterbury Church, the World Council of Churches and the Vatican. That was clearly shown by the Document of Human Fraternity between Al-Azhar and the Vatican in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, Chabotovic said.
The Grand Imam stressed that the religions call for peace, and so are innocent of the terrorist crimes committed in their name. He indicated that some of the global agendas are trying to use religion to serve certain political interests, which is what the religious leaders are trying to confront.
On his part, the Polish Foreign Minister said that his country, which is known for its diversity and cultural richness, seeks to benefit from Al-Azhar's experience in achieving peaceful coexistence, He also stressed that his country appreciates the efforts exerted by Al-Azhar to promote peace in the region and the world at large. He alsonoted the importance of relations between Al-Azhar and the Vatican in defusing tension among the followers of religions in the world.
At the end of the meeting, Chabotovic visited Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) and expressed his admiration of the methodology of the AOCE in confronting the extremist calls and protecting the young people from being tricked by terrorist thought.
