Today at Al Azhar Headquarters, His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Prof. Ahmed At-Tayeb received Stephen Romane, the French ambassador to Cairo to discuss joint scientific and cultural relations.
The Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar is the top reference for the Muslims all over the world. It always works on educating people about religion and world-related matters and protecting society from misleading concepts and any thoughts that may cause people to deviate from moderate Islam. The Imam added that Al Azhar refuses both negligence and extremism. He affirmed that throughout its history, this prestigious institution has always been respected by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. It adopts the true Islamic religion that is sent as mercy to the entire universe.
On his part, the French ambassador highlighted the strength of the scientific and cultural relations between France and Al-Azhar, noting that France always works on developing these relations. "We recognize the central global position of Al-Azhar. For France, it is the only reference that represents moderate Sunni Islam. We come to Al-Azhar when we want to know or inquire about any matter related to the Islamic religion," he stated. He also affirmed that Al-Azhar is an indispensable entity with regard to Islam in Egypt and all over the world.
