The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭayyeb, received H.E. Mr. Muhammad Munirul Islam, Ambassador of Bangladesh in Cairo.
The Grand Imam said, “Al-Azhar Al-Sharif pays great attention to the international Muslim students who study at its various faculties and institutes. Al-Azhar works on providing them with religious disciplines which establish Islam’s moderation and tolerance. He highlighted Al-Azhar’s interest in intensifying the academic exchange between Al-Azhar University and universities in Bangladesh. He also stressed that Al-Azhar will spare no effort in overcoming all the obstacles facing them. His Eminence added that Al-Azhar is going to increase the number of scholarships allocated to Bangladeshi students to Al-Azhar; to reach 33 scholarships this year, and that it is also working on building Azhari institutes in Bangladesh in the near future, like the case in other Muslim countries, in order for them to be a nucleus for promoting the moderate Azhari approach there.”
On his part, the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Cairo said that, “the Grand Imam enjoys great prestige among the Bangladeshi people, and that the government of Bangladesh always seeks to consolidate academic cooperation with Al-Azhar, seen as a platform for moderate Islam in the Muslim world. His Excellency pointed out his country’s pride of the great care Al-Azhar pays to its Bangladeshi students.
