As part of ongoing efforts by Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) to communicate with university students and give clear answers to their preoccupations, AOCE -in collaboration with Minia University- held a symposium as a part of the Listen and Talk series entitled ‘Freedom between Discipline and Chaos’.
The symposium came after the successful Listen and Speak II that was held on October 30, 2022, discussing four main themes: freedom between discipline and chaos, homosexuality: an instinct or attitude, dialogue and its impact on combating extremism and promoting human peace, and women between religion and traditions.
During the event, AOCE researchers discussed the concept of freedom, its ethical and social outcome, and the main aim of freedom in light of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) saying, “Do not be will-less, saying: ‘I do as people do; ff they do well, I will follow suit; and if they do wrong, I will follow in their footsteps.’ Rather, seek self-discipline by doing good if people do good, and by abstaining from behaving unjustly if they do evil.”
