Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) received a high-level Malaysian delegation headed by H.E Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Religious Affairs. Both parties discussed ways to promote joint cooperation in the field of religious affairs and combating extremism. During the visit, Dr. Reham Slamah, the AOCE executive director, presented AOCE's vision in the field of combating terrorism and extremism, addressing various terrorism-related issues such as social and economic conditions in some societies that suffer from terrorism, not to mention interactive activities organized periodically by AOCE for youth and students at local and global levels.
The Malaysian delegation toured the AOCE 13 units and was briefed on the mechanism for monitoring written, visual, and audio products by extremist groups; highlighting latest publications that focus on a number of various issues such as extremism, refugees, and hate crime.
At the end of the meeting, the delegation expressed its deep appreciation to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayeb, for his efforts in combating hate speech and extremist ideologies that spark violence and terrorism in the world.
