AOCE Condemns Vehicle Attack in Magdeburg, Calls for Enhanced Efforts against Extremism

Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE) strongly condemns the horrific vehicle attack that took place this Friday evening at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. According to reports this tragic incident has resulted in multiple fatalities and approximately 80 injuries.
The AOCE notes that Christmas seasons typically marked by an increase in terrorist threats, stressing that it issued a warning two weeks ago of potential terrorist attacks. Such warning was prompted by recent calls from the ISIS terrorist organization (Daesh), urging its members—particularly lone wolves—to learn how to steal and drive vehicles to be used as a means of carrying out terrorist acts.
Furthermore, the AOCE's reports indicate that these alarming calls emerged following the increased security measures implemented by the German authorities to restrict the use of blade weapons, such as knives, which have been frequently employed in past attacks.
This tragic event, Al-Azhar adds, underscores the urgent need to strengthen current security measures via comprehensive strategies aimed at combating extremist ideologies and eliminating their root causes.
The AOCE seizes this opportunity to reiterate its commitment to rejecting all forms of violence and extremism, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in addressing such grave issues. In addition, the Observatory expresses its heartfelt solidarity with the victims’ families, wishes the injured a speedy recovery, and confirms its full support for all initiatives aimed at promoting security and peace worldwide.
