The Grand Imam Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Sheikh Al-Azhar received H.E. Michael-Christos Diamessis, the new ambassador of Greece to Egypt.

His eminence the Grand Imam welcomed the Greek Ambassador at Al-Azhar and wished him all the success in his new post in Cairo, emphasizing the depth of the Egyptian- Greek relations as well as the aspirations of Al-Azhar in establishing cultural relations between Al-Azhar and Greece through scientific and cultural exchange between both parties.

His eminence emphasized the readiness of Al-Azhar to offer some scholarships to Greek students who are interested in learning Arabic and to train imams of mosques in Greece to prepare them on confronting current challenges.

On his part, H.E. the Greek ambassador expressed the appreciation of his country of the role played by Al-Azhar in establishing dialogue and tolerance, and in countering terrorist thought. H.E. commended the efforts of the Grand Imam in supporting world peace, and also commended the speeches and lectures which his eminence gave in Europe, emphasizing that his country offers all the support for Muslim citizens to guarantee that they blend into the Greek society.
