The Grand Imam Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Sheikh Al-Azhar received Ms. Afaf Taour, deputy of the national council of human rights in Sudan, who was accompanied by H.E. Abdel Mahmoud Abdel Halim, Ambassador of Sudan to Egypt.

His eminence the Grand Imam emphasized that the medical and relief convoys sent to Sudan are part of the humanitarian duty and mission of Al-Azhar towards brothers and people of the Muslim world. His eminence pointed out that Al-Azhar sent numerous similar convoys to Niger, Somalia, Chad, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Central African Republic and Nigeria. His eminence the Grand Imam emphasized the readiness of Al-Azhar to extend their support by training imams on confronting deviant thought, and through increasing scholarships at Al-Azhar.

On her part, Ms. Taour emphasized the depth of the historic and cultural ties between Egypt and Sudan, in addition to the significant humanitarian role played by Al-Azhar within the community in the Muslim world. Moreover, Ms. Taour emphasized the religious role and efforts of Al-Azhar in promoting the values of tolerance and peace among the peoples and cultures, and commended his eminence the Grand Imam for all that he has offered and continues to offer at this critical stage in the history of mankind.
