The Grand Imam Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Sheikh Al-Azhar received H.E. Sanjay Bhattacharyya, the Ambassador of India to Egypt.

His eminence the Grand Imam welcomed the Indian Ambassador at Al-Azhar and commended the progress witnessed in India on all levels, adding that Al-Azhar exerts great efforts to safeguard the youth against extremist thought, and to correct the misrepresented image of Islam. 

His eminence emphasized that Al-Azhar is ready to cooperate with the Indian government in training imams and countering all deviant thoughts that harm individuals, societies and nations.

On his part, H.E. the ambassador emphasized that the strong relationship between India and Egypt which is a long historical and cultural one. H.E. the Ambassador also emphasized that Al-Azhar embodies the message of Islam which is based on tolerance and acceptance of the other.

H.E. Ambassador Bhattacharyya added that the people of India aspire to a visit from the Grand Imam to India, which has a population of a hundred and eighty million Muslims, which is considered one of the largest Muslim communities outside the Arab region.
