The Grand Imam Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Sheikh Al-Azhar received the Ambassador of Myanmar to Egypt, who discussed the situation in his country with the Grand Imam. H.E. the ambassador explained the geographic tension in which Muslim citizens are facing, as they suffer violence and persecution on the part of some of those of a different religion. H.E. the Ambassador emphasized that the Foreign Ministry of Myanmar welcomed with great appreciation, the attention and interest given by Al-Azhar in ending the existing severe state of tension, and establishing peace among all parties; for Al-Azhar has a great experience in ending sedition and bloodshed, and His eminence Sheikh Al-Azhar has special relations with all religions and exerts great efforts in establishing world peace.

On his part, his eminence the Grand Imam emphasized that the message of Al-Azhar is a message of peace to the whole world. His eminence also emphasized his readiness to meet a group of influential youth and religious leaders from all religions and ethnicities in Myanmar, especially in heated areas, in order to remove congestion and minimize the gap between everyone. The Grand Imam emphasized that there must be tangible results to this meeting, for the injustice which Muslims citizens are facing must be ended, and comprehensive peace to be established among all the Burmese people.
