Al-Azhar relief convoy reaches the Palestinian territories and delivers 150 tons of food supplies to Gaza Strip
Dr. Maḥmoud Ṣiddīq, Vice President of Al-Azhar University for Graduate Studies and Research, General Supervisor of Convoys at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, stated that Al-Azhar relief convoy arrived in Gaza Strip on Monday early morning, May 24, 2021, through Rafaḥ border crossing to reach our brothers in Palestine. The aid was delivered to officials and specialists on the Palestinian side, within the framework of the directives by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Aḥmad Aṭ-Ṭayyeb. The convoys represent the humanitarian and relief role played by Al-Azhar, and its support for the Palestinian people facing the aggression they are exposed to by the occupying Zionist entity.
Ṣiddīq saluted and thanked the Egyptian armed forces and police for the efforts exerted in providing all means of support and protection to secure the convoy until it reached, by the Grace of Allah the Almighty, at the Egyptian Rafaḥ crossing and the completion of the delivery procedures. The Egyptian army also continued to secure the convoy until the members of Al-Azhar delegation left Rafaḥ crossing after they were assured that officials from the Palestinian side had received the contents of the convoy.
The convoy, which is considered the largest relief convoy in the history of Al-Azhar, included 150 tons of food supplies to Gaza. A group of Azhari scholars and specialists in managing convoys at Al-Azhar Headquarter participated in the convoy, carrying a message of appreciation and cordiality from Al-Azhar Grand Imam, its scholars and affiliates to our brothers in Palestine. Such gesture came in continuation of Al-Azhar historical role played towards the Palestinian cause and in solidarity with our brothers and their participation in the spirit of victory over the brutal enemy, wishing the demise of this occupation.
The convoy came as an extension of Al-Azhar’s position rejecting the violations of the Zionist entity towards the Palestinian people, the real owners of the land and the holders of a just cause. It was released due to what happened during the last days of the attacks on the Palestinian citizens who live in Sheikh Jarrāḥ neighborhood, their homes and properties, and the attempt to forcibly displace them, storming the courtyards of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, suppressing the peaceful Palestinian demonstrations and attacking them by force of arms. The Grand Imam condemned such violations and the shameful global silence towards the brutal Zionist terrorism and its violations against the Palestinian people and our Islamic sanctities in Palestine. His eminence also launched a global campaign through his sites and Al-Azhar platforms on social media, in all languages, in support of the Palestinian cause.
It is worth noting that the leaders of Al-Azhar, led by the Grand Imam’s deputy, Al-Azhar University President, the Islamic Research Academy Secretary-General, Al-Azhar University deputies, and the Head of the Al-Azhar Institutes Sector, all participated in launching the convoy from the headquarters of Al-Azhar Sheikhdom yesterday, Sunday, emphasizing Al-Azhar’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, promoting the spirit of brotherhood and unity among the people of the Muslim nation.
